In this third edition, Fage discusses several key recent issues that have dramatically affected the continent. He addresses the effect on Africa of the collapse of teh Soviet Union and the ending of the Cold War. The author also investigated the rise of Islamic fundamentalism, as well as the continuing problems of famine, foreign debt and warfare througout the continent. Finally, Fage covers the tumultuous changes in Sotuh Africa leading up to and resulting from the 1994 elections.

The third edition of A History of Africa will be seen as a seminal book on the subject and should remain on shelves for years to come.
