Lives in Context: The Art of Life History Research

The reflexive turn in qualitative research has transformed the process of doing life history research. No longer are research subjects examined through the lens of the all-knowing but, supposedly, invisible researcher. This introduction to conducting life history research shows that the process is now one of mutuality, empathy, sensitivity and caring. The book carries the reader through the steps of life history research, from conceptualizing the project to the various means of presenting the results - with an eye towards understanding the nature of the relationship between participant and researcher and how that relationship may or may not shape the project. The book presents research from the authors and from novice researcher and explains the challenges each researcher faced in devloping their own life history project.
