The Missions of San Antonio: San Jose y San Miguel de Aguayo, Nuestra Senora de la Purisima Concepcion, San Juan Capistrano, San Francisco de la Espada, San Antonio de Valero

Between the years of 1680 and 1793, thirty-six missions were founded in Texas. Five of these were built along the San Antonio River, Yanaguana. Alaong with the presidio, the missions were designed to serve as temporary outposts for "Christianizing" the Indian and making him a Spanish citizen.
