Introduction from the Author
The first day I visited Lafayette, I felt like I had just been transported into one of those cheesy college catalogues, where all the beautiful people are laughing and playing Frisbee and running to class with their Abercrombie jeans and messenger bags. I remember thinking that I could definitely fit into this place, and that the students all seemed really nice and the faculty seemed totally clued in to what the students were up to. Four years later, and five months out, I still believe in that overused cliché: college really is the best four years of your life. At least, it was the best four years of mine. If I had to describe Lafayette in just one paragraph, it would go something like this: the college, located just over the border between New Jersey and Pennsylvania, is a small liberal arts school that prides itself on delivering the “Lafayette Experience” to students. And what an experience the college offers—gorgeous scenery (they will tell you it is “consistently rated one of the most beautiful campuses in the nation”), less than 2,300 undergraduates, wonderful professor accessibility, a low student-professor ratio, newly renovated buildings that make student life a bit more interesting, modern academic facilities, and so much more. Although every college does have its weak points, Lafayette is a fantastic environment for discovering all that campus life has to offer. My alma mater is climbing the academic rankings, and for good reason. Since I enrolled in 2000, there is a noticeable improvement in the intellectual caliber of admitted students; this has fostered an increased productive living and working environment. There are numerous opportunities to explore different realms of academia, and in the extracurricular circuit, everything from the school newspaper to the financial investment club is available for student participation. So don’t stop now—read on. Maybe Lafayette College will be the best four years of your life, as well. Pamela M. Roth, Author Lafayette College |
