West Virginia University: Off The Record

Founded in 1867, West Virginia University has been a staple of the state of West Virginia for almost 140 years. WVU completely consumes the city of Morgantown and has slowly become one of the best college towns in the nation. Being one of two major universities in the state, WVU garners much of the in-state enrollment. There are also many out-of-state students that come to WVU each year. WVU is a school on the rise with great standards in academics, athletics, and a great local atmosphere. WVU also has a long standing tradition of being a university that cares about its students and their well-being. With all of the programs and extracurricular activities available for students, WVU offers something for every taste and preference.

When going through my college selection, the choices I made were based on brief college visits, a vast array of information obtained from other people, and university brochures. I attempted to do research, but it is hard to find a resource that focuses on aspects like social scene, athletics, and other minor things the university offers besides academics and tuition. There are certain things that are important to certain people, and I was no different. I wanted a school with a rich athletic tradition, as well as good education programs and a vibrant nightlife. I happened to know a student at WVU already, so luckily, my search was made a little easier. Not everyone has that luxury, though.

In the following pages, I will try to make your research easier by covering every subject a prospective student may want to know about. It is important that future students really know everything a university has to offer, and hopefully this book will do the job. We will look at every topic a student could think of like academics, parties, guys and girls, and facilities. Regular campus literature doesn’t give this type of in-depth look at what a college or university is really like. Hopefully, as you read on, you will gain an accurate portrayal of what kind of school West Virginia is and what it has to offer its students.
