The book's goal is to promote the sharing of information, experience, solutions, and insights in order to help people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to improve their quality of life. The editors have toned down Ontario-specific material, added information that compares definitions, trends, and systems worldwide, and included resources available in different countries, to reshape for international audience.

This book will be divided into six sections: Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, Etiology and Conditions, Support and Intervention, Developmental Disabilities Through the Lifespan, Health, and The Future.
