Primero Dios

'Primero Dios' builds bridges. This book explores some of the cultural expectations Hispanic Catholics bring to the sacraments and other liturgical events. In addition to Baptism, Confirmation, First Communion, Reconciliation, Marriage, and the Anointing of the Sick, the authors examine the rites of the 'Presentacion del nino' and 'Quince Anos,' the 'Pedir la mano' and those at the time of death: the 'Velorio, Novenario,' and 'Levantacruz.' This book will help ministers engaged in ministry in Hispanic communities in the United States who are not sure how to appropriate customs that are not in the official ritual books. It is also for Hispanic Catholics seeking to understand how their practices fit into the worship of the Church universal. The text is written in English. For the convenience of presiders, ritual adaptations are printed both in Spanish and in English.
