The Coast to Coast Walk (Recreational Path Guide)

The Coast to Coast Walk, devised by that prince of ramblers Alfred Wainwright, starts at St Bees on the Cumbrian coast and runs for 192 miles (307km) to Robin Hood's Bay to cover the high ground across the country, passing through three of Britain's loveliest National Parks - the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors. In the 36 years since Alfred Wainwright published his original guide it has become one of Britain's most popular long-distance walks. Martin Wainwright's detailed description of the route is divided into twelve chapters, each covering one day's walk, and accompanied by Ordnance Survey 1:25 000 mapping and colour photographs. Places of particular historical or landscape interest are highlighted and discussed, and a Useful Information section gives names and contact details for tourist offices and other helpful organisations.
